Wrapped in Warmth Collects Nearly 2,100 items for Kansas City Homeless

By MarksNelson on January 8, 2018 in Articles, Marks Of Kindness

MarksNelson’s Wrapped in Warmth program was able to reach thousands of people in Kansas City less than a day before the temperature dropped to below zero.  On December 21, 2017, volunteers hung the winter items on trees, tied them around light poles and stuffed fences in ten locations across the metro as part of the Wrapped in Warmth program dedicated to helping the homeless.  Attached to each item was a note that read: “The spirit of the season has found you. We hope this item keeps you wrapped in warmth all winter long.

This was the second year for the program which launched in November 2016 after MarksNelson employees donated 132 coats and blankets to a local drive. The firm recognized the program provided warm coats to the homeless but not the accompanying hats, scarves, and gloves needed to stave off the cold.

In 2016, MarksNelson donated more than 400 winter items to the homeless. For 2017, the firm was able to more than quadruple that number thanks to the partnership of four Kansas City companies, Blue Ocean Consulting, DeVry Kansas City Campus,  DMC Service, and Excel Constructors, as well as through the generosity of our staff members, clients, and the public.

In addition, some MarksNelson employees formed a knitting group and get together regularly to work on hats, scarves, and gloves. This group alone contributed 150 items to Wrapped in Warmth. Click here to see the story covered by KSHB TV.

The firm has already started planning Wrapped in Warmth 2018 and will accept any new or hand-knitted hats, scarves, and gloves from now until December 17, 2018. The goal is to double the impact from 2017 and pass out 4,000 items to the homeless and those in need.
