Kansas City accounting firm MarksNelson LLC is pleased to announce that Member Angie McElhaney, CPA, CCIFP, has received the Women to Watch Award presented by the Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants (MSCPA). McElhaney was recognized at the MSCPA Awards Celebration November 12, 2015 at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.

McElhaney was included in the Experienced Leaders award category, which recognizes women with more than 10 years in the profession and/or has achieved a high-level position in her organization. The award highlights the accomplishments of women in the accounting profession and is evaluated by examining each nominee’s community involvement, major or unique contributions to the industry, mentoring and leadership of workplace improvements.

“Angie is committed to maximizing the opportunities of her colleagues at MarksNelson and has become a role model and mentor for many women in the firm,” said Managing Member Mark Radetic, CPA, CGMA. “We are proud of her recognition as a ‘Woman to Watch’ and owe her a debt of gratitude for making her mark on the firm, and for the many contributions she has made to clients and the community.”

McElhaney joined MarksNelson in 2003 and was named a Member in 2010. This year, she was elected to the firm’s three-member executive committee while also continuing to serve as the Chair of the Assurance and Business Advisory practice. McElhaney specializes in working with clients in a variety of industries that are traditionally male-dominated, such as construction companies and auto dealerships.

McElhaney has served as the Steering Committee Chair for the Construction Leadership Council (CLC), a Board Member for Associated General Contractors and belongs to the Builders Association and the Associated Builders and Contractors organizations. She has been instrumental in the development of women’s initiatives at MarksNelson, which has received national recognition in Accounting Today and by the National Accounting MOVE Project for its high percentage of women partners and owners.

“It is truly an honor to receive an award like this,” McElhaney said. “I want to help more women succeed and attain high ranking positions in this business. I hope my influence can inspire not only the women in our firm but also in our community to help us achieve gender equity in the workplace and secure an even better future for working women for generations to come.”

McElhaney received a Bachelor of Science (with distinction) in Accounting from University of Missouri-Kansas City. She is active in the Kansas City community through volunteer work for the Xi Nu Delta chapter of Beta Sigma Phi for the past 20 years, as well as donating her time to the Ronald McDonald House. Additionally, McElhaney is a Stephen Minister Leader at her church, where she facilitates and provides one-on-one counseling to those going through challenging times.
