Sales Tax Update for Part of Kansas City Metro

Starting this month, you’ll notice sales tax increases for various jurisdictions in the Kansas City Metro. Cass County, Missouri imposed a 1/4 percent county law enforcement sales tax, which also applies to the sale of domestic utilities and the local use tax. The move brings the current county sales and use tax rates to 6.2250%.

Kansas City, Missouri imposed a 1/8 percent city economic development tax which also applies to local use tax.

Other Missouri areas seeing changes to sales tax include:

  • Blue Springs: 1/2 percent city storm water/local parks sales tax
  • Liberty: 1/2 percent city public safety sales tax
  • Trenton: 3/8 percent city public mass transportation sales tax
  • Arrowhead Community Improvement District – 1 percent district sales and use tax for portions of Independence, Mo.
  • North Haven Center Community Improvement District – 1 percent district sales and use tax for portions of Liberty, Mo.
  • Pershing & Grand Community Improvement District – 1 percent district sales and use tax
  • 9 Highway Corridor Community Improvement District – 1 percent district sales and use tax for portions of Parkville, Mo.

States publish rate increases on a quarterly basis. As a best practice, be sure to check these publications before the quarter starts to ensure your point of sale system is updated to collect the correct rate from your customers.
