    MarksNelson is pleased to announce the promotion of John Stolte, CPA, from manager in the firm’s Audit practice, to partner. Stolte, who provides consultation to the construction industry and non-profit organizations, has more than 16 years of experience in managing audits, reviews, compilations and agreed-upon procedures. Prior to joining MarksNelson in 2002, Stolte was an auditor for a Big Four accounting firm and also served as an internal auditor for a large private construction company. He co-chairs the firm’s Recruiting Task Force and heads MarksNelson’s ABA Department Administrative Committee, which is responsible for coordinating triennial peer reviews.

Small construction contractors are backing a bill in Congress that they say could help them survive a difficult market. The American Job Builders Tax Reform Act (HR 6097) is co-sponsored by Rep. Wally Herger, R-Calif., and Rep. Shelley Berkley, D-Nev. It would allow small contractors to defer income and get a tax break.
