Kansas City’s Largest Locally-Owned Accounting Firm Grows Tax Department with Combination of New Hires and Promotions
MarksNelson, Kansas City’s largest locally-owned accounting firm, is pleased to announce the expansion of its tax department with seven additions to the firm. Beth Van Leeuwen joins as manager while Elizabeth Wilmarth is welcomed as supervisor and Malissa Sartain as senior accountant within the tax department. In addition, Russell Brown, Catherine Higdon and Theo Zecy were hired as staff accountants.
With nearly eight years of experience as a Certified Public Accountant, Van Leeuwen has worked with many multi-state clients in the manufacturing, distribution and service industries. At MarksNelson, she is responsible for managing daily client activities, compliance, planning and researching tax issues and changes. Van Leeuwen said she looks forward to working with a variety of clients across multiple industries and developing personal relationships with her new client base.

Wilmarth, also a CPA, brings almost 14 years of experience in public and private accounting having most recently worked for a Fortune 30 company and has an extensive background as a controller. At MarksNelson, she is responsible for on-site accounting work and controllership for clients.
Sartain, a Certified Public Accountant, brings five years of experience working with high net worth individuals, small businesses and the business owners. She specializes in the areas of tax planning, compliance and problem resolutions. Her responsibilities include the supervision and review of federal and state income tax filings, along with coordinating internal training programs.
The tax department has further expanded adding Brown, Higdon and Zecy to the team as staff accountants.
Brown is a Certified Public Accountant having recently graduated in May with a Jurist Doctorate from The University of Kansas School of Law after earning his Masters in Business Administration in Accounting at Dallas Baptist University. Higdon is a graduate of the University of Central Missouri with a Bachelors in Business Administration with a major in Accounting. Zecy attended The University of Kansas where he obtained his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the School of Business. He went on to earn his Masters of Science in Accounting at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
Managing Member Mark Radetic said the recent growth within the tax department is a reflection of the firm’s commitment to providing the best resources, products and services to its client base.

Adding to the expansion, MarksNelson announced promotions for Nicole Eshnaur, Andrew Dahmer, and Christine Boushka.
Eshnaur has 11 years of experience in public accounting and will have increased responsibilities in the Accounting Services Group within the firm’s tax practice. In addition to managing many of the firm’s accounting engagements, she will also be consulting with clients regarding payroll and sales/use tax issues as well as providing controller services where applicable.

Dahmer and Boushka have become Senior Tax Accountants with increased responsibilities working with tax clients and the development of new hires.
