Kansas City Accounting Firm celebrated by the 2014 Accounting MOVE Project for dedication to equity
MarksNelson, Kansas City’s largest locally-owned accounting firm, was named among the 2014 Best Accounting Firms for Leadership Equity by the 2014 Accounting MOVE Project. MarksNelson, which is comprised of 36 percent women leadership equity, is one of nine firms nationwide awarded with this honor and the only firm in the region on the list. By contrast, the national average for women in corporate leadership roles is 14 percent.
“This award reinforces what we at MarksNelson already know, that women are both essential members and key leaders of our team,” said Managing Member Mark Radetic. “We are proud to be recognized for our dedication to ensuring that women on our team are valued and supported in their work both today and throughout their careers.”
The MOVE Project began in 2010 as a joint project of the American Society of Women Accountants (ASWA) and the American Woman’s Society of Certified Public Accountants (AWSCPA). Each year, participating firms are ranked on the range, depth and success of programs and workplace culture proven to remove barriers to women’s success. The MOVE Project research partner, Wilson-Taylor Associates, Inc., has been measuring and supporting the advancement of women since 1998.
This year, the MOVE Project focused three key components: initiatives, influence, and internships. The report measured how firms capture return on key women’s initiatives, facilitate growth in influence for women, and invest in internships that can launch careers.
This is the first year MarksNelson has landed on the list. The firm offers accounting and consulting services to a diverse mix of industries.
