MarksNelson is gearing up for our annual Wrapped in Warmth campaign and we’d love for you to join us. Right now through December 19th, you can bring new hats, scarves, and gloves to our office for those in need.
Just before Christmas MarksNelson employees will tie the donated items around trees and light posts in Washington Square Park and outside the Kansas City Public Library branch downtown. Attached to each item will be a note that reads: “The spirit of the season has found you. We hope this item keeps you wrapped in warmth all winter long.”
The Wrapped in Warmth program was launched in November 2016, after MarksNelson employees donated 132 coats and blankets to a local drive. We recognized the program provided warm coats to the homeless but not the accompanying hats, scarves, and gloves needed to stave off the cold. To address the need, the following month MarksNelson launched Wrapped in Warmth.
Last year, MarksNelson employees donated more than 400 scarves, hats, and gloves for the homeless. This year, those in need will again have the opportunity to be Wrapped in Warmth but not just by MarksNelson employees! The public is also invited to donate new or hand-knitted items in the hope that we can distribute many more items.
In addition, some MarksNelson employees who knit have been getting together regularly for several months to knit hats and scarves that will be given out through MarksNelson’s Wrapped in Warmth program.
We hope that you will join our effort to let the homeless know that we care and are making sure they’re Wrapped in Warmth by dropping items in the barrel located in our lobby!
